ISLAMABAD: Deregulisation
of telecom sector in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir was discussed at a high
level meeting here Monday.
Chairing the meeting, the Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas
Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat said that the government was striving to
provide better telecommunication facilities to the people of AJK and the
Northern Areas.
The meeting was informed that village population in AJK was being given
priority in providing moblie phone facilities.
The meeting discussed in length the role of Special Commuications
Organization (SCO) and Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA).
The SCO has an annual budget of Rs 1600 million. The meeting was informed
that Rs 400 million are being spent for provision of better
telelcommunication facilities in the Northern Areas during the current
financial year.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and
Northern Areas Rasool Bakhsh Baloch, Chairman PTA Maj Gen (Retd) Shahzada
Alim Malik, DG SCO Maj Gen Muhammad Waheed Akhtar Malik, Additional
Secretary Ministry of Defence Rear Admiral Ehsan ul Haq Chaudhry, Joint
Secretary AJK Council Secretariat Faridullah Khan, Secretary Law AJK
Government Sardar Muhammad Ashraf and others.●
