Pakistan’s Image Abroad
-
Amjad Charr, Sialkot

AUSTRALIAN newspapers, TV channels and websites have highlighted President Musharraf’s visit in their first page headlines and special bulletins.

Since his arrival for a four-day visit to Australia, Pervez Musharraf has been the most sought-after figure. Presence of large local and global media representatives at all his engagements is evident of the fact.

All engagements of the President including an unprecedented reception at Parliament House and his address at the National Press Club drew great attention and huge coverage.

The Australian leadership gave him extra ordinary importance. This was the first ever event of a Pakistani leader visiting the Australian soil.

The credit goes largely to Gen. Pervez Musharraf for his role in international war against terror and for doing a good job in nurturing Pakistan economic growth, which in the long run is the best way to fight extremism, illiteracy and unemployment.

Using only the phrase “moderate face” or “soft image” would not be correct with reference to President Musharraf. The credit goes to him and only him – for using the series of event in South Asia in a right way and at right time.

Musharraf has emerged not only a good soldier but also a far-sighting visionary. His articulately handling of Pakistan’s foreign policy, particularly while dealing with the West, has helped build country’s image abroad.

I have heard think-tanks commenting, “Had there been someone else, other than Gen. Musharraf, particularly after 9/11, the situation here could have been different.

It is now on us to maintain his policy and join hands with him to build the country.●
