MAKKAH (Saudi Arabia):
Nikah [Marriage Contract] ceremony of Dawood Ibrahim’s daughter and former
Pakistan cricket captain Javed Miandad’s son is expected to take place in
the holy city of Makkah, says a report.
Contrary to reports that the families have fixed Karachi for the marriage
and Dubai for the reception, a source close to the family in Mumbai claimed
that the Nikah ceremony would take place in the holy city of Makkah.
The source, on the condition of anonymity, said, “In the past also, Nikah
ceremonies in the family have taken place either in Makkah or Madina. Even
last year, Anees Ibrahim’s daughter got married in Makkah.”
The source said that Dawood Ibrahim’s family is very religious. He said,
“Dawood’s son has just learnt the Quran by heart.”
Dawood’s daughter Mahrukh, second of his five children (one of his daughters
Maria died in Dubai), is getting married to Miandad’s son Junaid. Junaid is
in London and pursuing a degree in business administration, whereas Mahrukh
is doing “some management course in Oxford”.
Junaid (22) has been in London since 2001, whereas Mahrukh (20) went to
England two years ago. The source said, “She is not a career-oriented girl.
She only plans on being a housewife.
Miandad has already said that he wants to be a grandfather as early as
possible.” Though it is a high-profile marriage, few details about the girl
are available.
Apart from her ‘Oxford’ link, not much is known about her.
A city businessman, once very close to Dawood said, “Nobody in Mumbai has
met Dawoodbhai for the last three years. Forget about the details about his
family, we don’t even know his whereabouts.” He added that in Mumbai they
only met Dawood “in the outside room”.
Though Miandad maintained that his mother is a relative of Dawood’s wife
Mahjabeen, sources close to the family deny this.
They say instead that Miandad’s father-in-law and Dawood share business ties
which have contributed to the marriage.●
