LAHORE: Provincial Minister
for Industry and Trade Muhammad Ajmal Cheema has said that in order to
promote small and cottage industry on modern lines a policy has been
evolved.
“The Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) will set up four Common
Facility Centres for the small industries, where latest machinery would be
installed. Besides, the establishment of a Cottage Village was also
under-consideration.”
The Minister stated this while presiding over a high-level meeting of the
Corporation here on Sunday. PSIC officials also attended the meeting. He
said that there are as many as 1200 cottage industries in Sargodha, where a
modern dye-mechanic manufacturer machine would be installed.
In order to facilitate the vendor industry, he said that a computerized
machine would be set up for preparing auto parts locally, said Mr. Cheema.
He added that the locally prepared auto parts would be consumed domestically
and exported as well.
Ajmal Cheema said that furniture showrooms would be established at Chiniot,
Gujrat and Karachi, where entrepreneurs from abroad could come, visit and
place their orders to import in their countries.
The Minister said the Common Facility Centres would function under the
supervision of the Corporation for one year and later they would be handed
over to the concerned Chambers and traders’ organizations.
He said the government was seriously considering bringing together the
cottage industry at one place, for which the establishment of a Cottage
Village was under-consideration. A summary in this regard is being prepared,
he added.●
