PM asks EPZs to attract foreign investment

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister
Shaukat Aziz Saturday asked the Export Processing Zones for aggressive
marketing to attract foreign investment who can benefit from the low cost of
doing business in the country.
Speaking at a presentation made on the Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA),
at the PM House, he said the EPZA should urged global investors to start
operations by setting up assembly lines, manufacturing facilities.
This he said would enhance economic activity and create more job
opportunities.
The Prime Minister said the major thrust of the EPZA should be on attracting
investments for setting up software houses, Information Technology, business
processing, call centers and technology based industries.
The Prime Minister also directed the EPZ to engage Overseas Chambers of
Commerce to attract foreign investment.
Earlier Chairperson EPZA Mrs Rukhsana Saleem, briefed the Prime Minister on
objectives, history, functions and future plans of the EPZ.
Minister of Industries and Special Initiatives Jehangir Tareen and other
senior officials were present during the presentation.●
