More bulletproof cars for 'VVIPs' in
Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab
government has added two more bullet proof cars in its fleet for VVIPs’
movement.
The cars would be kept in the Chief Minister House transport pool and be
used for VVIPs like president prime minister and other national and
international dignitaries, sources said on Tuesday.
It is pertinent to mention here that Punjab government is already possessing
four such high security vehicles in its fleet and two more such cars were
scheduled to be delivered to the government within next couple of days,
sources further disclosed.
An officer of the Home Department said that the representative of Punjab
government has received the vehicles at Karachi seaport on last Saturday and
one of the two vehicles has been loaded for Lahore some three days back
whereas other one would be dispatched within couple of days.
The cars have been purchased through local dealer Shahnawaz motors, and
imported from its manufacturing company in Germany.
The original cost of the eight vehicles is more than Rs 150 million, an
officer of the Home Department said. He maintained that the govt would also
have to pay different duty taxes in addition to the original price of the
vehicles.
A custom officer said that government would have to pay about 130 per cent
duty in the head of different taxes including 75 per cent custom duty, 15
per cent sales tax, 7.5 per cent with holding tax and 6 per cent capital
value tax.
With this, the Punjab government would complete its fleet with the strength
of four Land Cruisers cars, two BMWs, and two Mercedes cars, when it would
receive two more vehicles by next month.●
