EDITORIAL:
Musharraf’s Vision on the UN
By the
Editor at the United Nations
GOING by pragmatism,
one can expediently adjudge that with the epoch-making speech of President
General Pervez Musharraf at the 60th session of the UN General Assembly,
Pakistan accomplished ovation par excellence on Wednesday.
As I look at it, it was for the reason that the President said was the
manifestation of his marvelous perceptions vis-à-vis the global issues with
Kashmir and Palestine atop.
Via his unique style of oratory, Musharraf clutched filled attention of
every-one who included Kings, Presidents, Premiers and delegates from
all-over the world and are attending the current session of the General
Assembly all through his speech.
The President touched every significant topic which is not only the need of
a specific realm but equally significant for every nation around the globe.
The essence of President Musharraf’s address was a zestful call for the
establishment of global peace where people could live with amity and create
an identical scenario for the generations to come.
He talked about the end of poverty and hunger from every terrain. Such a
setting could come in sight only through peace. And peace could be ensured
only through the solution of problems.
Towards this his specific reference towards the amiable resolution Kashmir
and Palestine issues in line with the aspirations of the bona fide owners
was specifically laudable.
Not only that the President spoke about the update situation of South Asia,
his call for an impetus to the Confidence Building Measures [CBMs] was well
received by peace-loving diplomatic circles.
At the same, his sincere assurances for all-out co-operation towards the
upcoming elections in Afghanistan was simultaneously taken with a lot of
adore.
Yet another aspect, which was phrased as marvelous by the intellectuals here
was his vision of enlightened moderation, which is aimed at bringing trends
of terror and extremism to an eternal end.
Likewise, Pakistan’s reiteration to continue its all-out efforts against
terrorism in all forms and manifestations was the hallmark of the President
speech, which was liked and acknowledged both by media and those entire how
came out with a feedback.
For the reformation on the UN Security Council, his remarks that decisions
to this effect should not be made for any-one being ‘elite’ but with general
consensus were also taken with admiration by every realist.
Similarly, by highlighting the need for international peace and justice [for
all] the President won a great deal of appreciation from the analysts,
present around the magnificent edifice of the United Nations.
I can confidently say that the comments of President Musharraf on the UN
Charter with his call for its implementation to the eventual good of the
world shall also be indexed as an icon of significant vision in the lexicon
of the world body.
Since the UN surfaced with
a pragmatic approach by realizing that the people all around the world
attach lot of expectations with it, paradoxically it has not proved itself
that strong as ought to be for establishment of environs of global peace.
Though it did pass a lot of resolutions for making evaporate diverse
disputes, by and large most of such issues exit unabated.
Thus, it is an apt time to make the world body powerful enough not only to
cope with the current milieu in diverse vicinities around the world but also
to make it still more powerful so that all issues get resolved amicably
without any delay.
Anyway, as for President Musharraf's current visit to the United States for
the UN General Assembly Session, which heralded the advent of its seventh
decade on Tuesday, has by all perceptions been a grand success.
With his address to the 60th session of the GA, the President have had very
useful exchange of views with the US President Bush and British Prime
Minister Tony Blair on many matters of mutual interest for ultimate good of
the world at-large.
Expectantly, President Musharraf’s interaction with the Indian Prime
Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh shall also prove positive and productive with a
ray of hope that the current process of CBMs shall get momentum in days
ahead with the solution of the core issue of Kashmir resolved in line with
the aspirations of the people of the Himalayan State of Jammu & Kashmir sans
any more delay—in any mode or manner.●
