Pakistan, India discuss gas pipeline project
Pakistan Times National News Desk

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and India said on Friday that they were pressing ahead with a $7 billion project to pipe Iranian gas to South Asia, despite a looming threat of UN sanctions against Tehran.

Officials from both countries discussed legal, financial, technical and commercial aspects of the project at a meeting in Islamabad.

"As far as we are concerned, we are going ahead," Indian Petroleum Secretary Sushil Chandra Tripathy said.

"We are going ahead with the development of a project structure ... so we can put together a project feasibility and a project structure," he added.

The two countries are likely to issue a joint statement on Friday outlining their progress in the latest talks.●
