Govt in NW Pakistan to seek legal opinion on Hasba Bill
Pakistan Times National News Desk

PESHAWAR: A high-level meeting has decided to seek opinion of legal experts to evolve future strategy on Hasba Bill.

It was also decided in the meeting to keep all options open including challenging the Supreme Court interpretation for Hasba Bill under section 184 of the Constitution and again bringing it to the floor of the assembly.

NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani presided over the meeting held at Frontier House here, says a handout.

It reviewed the current status of Hasba Bill, the constitutional and legal space available, provincial government future course of action and the sovereignty of the Frontier Assembly.

The meeting reviewed whether the Islamic laws could be interpreted under the secular laws? Both the laws have different yardsticks.

The meeting also discussed constitutional and legal aspects of the Supreme Court decision debarring the governor to endorse the bill.

The chief minister was certain that the provincial government would continue to make legislation for Islamisation.

The meeting further decided to have another sitting to be participated by leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rehman and MMA president Qazi Hussain Ahmad soon to form future strategy.●
