Three drawn games on second day of National Jr championship in Pakistan

LAHORE: Three matches played on the second day of the 4th National under-17 football championship failed to produce result at Quetta's Ayub Stadium on Wednesday.

Lahore's famous Wohaib Club drew 0-0 with host Balochistan in Group-A and both the matches in Group-B also ended in draw. Northern Areas fought hard to hold formidable Islamabad scoreless while an exciting two-all draw was recorded between Punjab and NWFP,said the information provided by Pakistan Football Federation here on Wednesday.

After completion of two matches in Group-A, Balochistan led the table with two points, followed by Wohaib Club and Sindh with one point each. Sindh is one of the favorites having won the title in 1994 and 2004.

Punjab staged fine recovery to hold nippy players of Sarhad who were comfortably placed with 2-0 lead after 21 minutes play. Fazal Zeeshan struck early goal for NWFP in the seventh minute by firing free-kick into net and 14 minutes later Jabran consolidated the lead by steering the ball low into left corner.

Punjab went all out in quest of leveller and Muhammad Naseem pulled one back in the 28th minute. NWFP led 2-1 at interval. Punjab's youngsters continued their efforts and eight minutes from time Rashid Ali made it 2-2 following a solo spurt. Punjab kept leadership in Group-B with 4 points, while NWFP and Islamabad managed two points each. Northern Areas are at bottom with one point.

Match officials for the match were Ali Muhammad (Match Commissioner) and Current FIFA referee Jahangir Khan (Referee Inspector ) while Jamal Abdul Nasir, Muhammad Ali, Haji Qayyum, Shafiq Ahmed, Abdul Khalid, Muhammad Saeed, Taj Muhammad, Shafaat Habib performed duty of Referees /Assistant Referees.

The Quetta event will help PFF to form Pakistan team for the AFC Under-17 Championship. Pakistan will take on India and Tajikistan in qualifying phase of AFC U-17 Football Championship on November 13 and 15.●
