SAARC moot postponed due to quake in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The 5th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation [SAARC] commerce ministers’ meeting has been postponed because of the October-8 earthquake.

“Due to the destruction caused by the recent earthquake in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the government of Pakistan has postponed the ministerial meeting and meetings preceding it, including the 11th Committee of Export meeting on SAFTA from October-18 to 22,” said a spokesman of the Foreign Office.

The new dates for the meeting will be announced in consultation with member countries and the SAARC Secretariat.

However, the Foreign Office said the government was committed to attending the 13th SAARC Summit from November-12 to 13 in Dhaka.●
