Margalla Towers toll reaches 55 in Islamabad
By Aziz Malik - Pakistan Times Federal Bureau Chief

ISLAMABAD: With two more dead bodies, recovered from the rubble of the flattened Margalla Towers, the death toll mounted to 55 on Sunday.

Reports say that up to 88 injured have been shifted to hospitals from the site, two of whom are said to be in a critical condition.

One of the diseased was identified as 25-year-old Rukhsana, a resident of Okara. Rukhsana was a maid at the apartment of Capt Sajjad, who also passed away when the towers collapsed.

The other dead body was beyond recognition. Rukhsana’s body has been handed over to her heir while the second one has been shifted to the mortuary at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences PIMS.

Up to 66 injured people, airlifted from Muzafferabad and its adjoining areas, were taken to hospitals in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Saturday, sources said.

More than Full

Hospitals in the twin cities are already more than full and patients are now being dispatched to hospitals in Jehlum, Attock, Chakwal, Khariaan, Gujrat and Gujranwala.

Up to 10 injured people fell senseless and were shifted to a lunatic asylum in Lahore. Private hospitals in the twin cities have also rendered their services in the treatment of the injured.

After recovery, the injured were being shifted to the CDA community centre and the Pakistan Sports Complex, said the deputy commissioner of Islamabad.●
