Supreme Court of Pakistan orders housing for Margalla Towers residents

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan has directed CDA to provide housing to Margalla Towers residents on rent within three days or give them cash for rent payment.

The interim order was given by a larger bench of the apex court headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry on a constitutional petition filed by the residents of the quake-hit Margalla Towers.

A panel of lawyers led by Sharifuddin Pirzada including Hamid Khan, Qayyum Malik, Babar Awan, Shakil Ahmed and Barrister Zahoor-ul-Haq pleaded the case on behalf of the Margalla Towers.

Evacuation of residents from ‘C’ block of the quake-stricken Margalla Towers has been started.

An up-date says that six death bodies including four others of a Swedish family have been taken out from under the rubbles of a block of the Margalla Towers that knocked down on October-8 after a powerful earthquake jolted upper Pakistan.

The total death bodies pulled out from under the rubbles of a block of the Margalla Towers roses to 74 from 86 after more six death bodies were recovered after a local during digging of the pointed out that death bodies of three children and a woman were laying nearby an underground water tank.

The four dead Swedish members were identified as Madeleine Giobel, Eira, Elias and Emdla. As the rescue team continued digging further, two more corpses were recovered from under the rubbles identified as Naseem Ahmed and another Spanish named Enrique Lafarge.

The six dead bodies however, have been transported to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences. The local authorities believed three more people are still missing and the efforts are continuing for their search.●
