NANKANA SAHIB: Three-day
celebrations of 536th birthday anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak started on
Sunday.
The Yatrees reached here on special trains. They were warmly welcomed by DCO
Fazeel Asghar, Ahmad Faraz, Jahangir Akbar, Sardar Mastan Singh and Prof
Riaz Ahmad Cheema. The Yatrees were provided transport to get them to
Gurudawara Jaham Asthan.
Sardar Makhan Singh, the party leader of the Indian Yatrees, while talking
to newsmen said that peaceful atmosphere and mutual understanding between
India and Pakistan was direly needed for the development and welfare of the
people of both the countries.
He said that people of India wanted to live in peace with their neighbours
particularly Pakistan and wished that all disputes between both the
countries should be resolved by dialogue. He said although the people felt
the process of dialogue was slow but it should continue and the day would
come when all the disputes would be solved.
He said the India Sikh community had sympathies with the quake victims and
took active part in the collection of relief goods and sent blankets, flour
pulses, dry ration and other goods.
The Sikhs wanted that more points should be opened on the Line of Control so
the Kashmiris living on both sides could see their relatives. The government
and the Evacuee Trust Property Board was spending huge amounts for the
constructions of more and more residential blocks in Gurudawaras for the
Yatrees, whose number was rapidly increasing. He said the government, ETPB
and district administration deserved appreciation for providing maximum
possible facilities to the Yatrees.●
