Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The 17 members
of Pakistan's ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's family applied for the
British visas on Monday, while the former prime minister’s passport had been
handed over to the Saudi protocol in Jeddah, sources said on Monday.
As soon as Nawaz Sharif gets his passport back he along with his family
members would fly to the United Kingdom to be with his son Hasan, as he is
critically ill and getting treatment for multiple sclerosis.
Sources in the party said that Nawaz Sharif is planning to meet the Saudi
King and Crown Prince and all other Arab friends. He is to thank them for
their hospitality they had extended to him and his family during their stay
in the Kingdom since 11 December 2000.
Political Activities
Nawaz Sharif does not want to indulge in political activities in the UK till
his son gets better. However, with the presence of four former prime
ministers in the UK, including him, Ms Benazir Bhutto, Mir Zafarullah Khan
Jamali and Mustafa Jatoi, and former Governor Ghulam Mustafa Khar it would
be difficult for him to remain aloof from new developments.
Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif phoned senior vice president of PML [N] Islamabad
Anjum Aqeel Khan and condoled with him on the death of his mother.
Other than the Chief Pakistan Muslim League [N] Nawaz Sharif, passports of
his mother Begum Shamim Sharif, wife Begum Kalsoom Nawaz Sharif, brother
Mian Abbas Sharif, son-in-law Capt (Retd) Muhammad Safdar and daughter Mrs
Maryam Safdar and their two kids Junaid Safdar and Mehr-un-Nisa were
submitted to the UK embassy.●
