No Bird Flu in Pakistan, Minister tells NA

ISLAMABAD: The Minister of
State for Food, Agriculture and Livestock Muhammad Ali Malkani has
categorically stated that there is no evidence of disease of bird flu in the
country.
Responding to a calling attention notice in the National Assembly here on
Monday evening he however assured that the government has taken
precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus of this disease.
He said government has imposed ban on the import of birds of every kind from
the affected countries. He said laboratory tests have been carried out of
various carcasses of migratory birds in the lakes of lower Sindh and not
found any clue of bird flu.
The calling attention notice was moved by Fauzia Wahab and others regarding
apprehension of spread of bird flu.
Health Minister Muhammad Naseer Khan said that no case of bird flu has been
found in the poultry in the country so far.
The government is well aware of the problem and has taken every possible
measure to check this disease, he said by adding; the government is
approaching the WHO to obtain the vaccine for administering the poultry as
preventive measures.●
