India releases 25 prisoners of Pakistan

LAHORE: India has released
25 Pak istani
civilian prisoners and handed them over to Pakistani officials at Joint
Check Post Wahga here on Friday.
These prisoners were lodged in the jails of Rajasthan, Gujrat, occupied
Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Mahrashtra and Nagaland for the last
several years.
The Indian government earlier decided to release 26 prisoners, however set
free 25 inmates who crossed over to Pakistan through Wagah-Attari check post
after completing immigration and customs formalities, sources at Pakistan
High Commission said on Friday.
Status of Prisoners
National status of the prisoners, released yesterday was confirmed earlier
by Pakistan High Commission through consular access allowed by the Indian
government, the sources said.
Pakistan has handed over 988 Indian civilian prisoners, that is three times
more than the 356 Pakistani prisoners, released by New Delhi during year
2005, added the sources.●
