18 MW Naltar Hydro Power Project Commissioned

GILGIT: President General Pervez Musharraf inaugurated an over Rs. 1.36 billion 18 Mega Watt Naltar hydro power project here on Tuesday.

The project, completed in four years at Naltar near Gilgit, will help overcome the electricity problem in the area.

It is the biggest hydro power project in the Northern Areas constructed through a Chinese firm under the supervision of Water and Power department.

Minister for Kashmir and Northern Areas Affairs and Chief Executive of Northern Areas Tahir Iqbal and officials of Northern Area administration accorded warm welcome to the President at the site.

Earlier, Secretary Power Northern Areas Nasir Ali Shigri gave a briefing highlighting the salient features of the project.●
