Advani asks Manmohan to seek vote of confidence NEW DELHI (India): In wake of sharp differences between Left parties and Congress over nuke deal, BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani has asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to immediately seek a vote of confidence from Parliament as the government has lost majority for all practical purposes. Addressing a press conference, Advani said the government has indulged in trade off with Samajwadi party for survival. Samajawadi has 39 votes in the Lok Sabha. He said “government has been reduced to a charade...It has lost moral legitimacy (to govern)...For survival, Government seems ready to trade off anything,” he said. He demanded Congress government to immediately convene the session of Parliament to seek vote of confidence. Congress sought the support of Samajwadi party after Left parties having 59 members in the Lok Sabha threatened to withdraw support from the government if it goes ahead with the Indo-US nuclear deal. The Left parties have given July 7 as the last date for the government to come clearly on the nuke deal. |
