
USAID to spend $ 66.6 M in earthquake affected areas of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: United States Agency For International Development (USAID) would
provide dollars 66.6 million to Pakistan to assist in the rehabilitation and reconstruction
of quake affected areas.
The USAID has funded eight NGO partners to provide shelter assistance for a
targeted 75,500 households.
The Agency has also provided nearly 6.3 million dollars in emergency relief
commodities, including transportation cost for earthquake affected areas.
The Agency has also delivered a total of 47,500 blankets, 1,570 winterized
tents, 8,050 rolls of plastic sheeting for 36,672 families, 15,000 water containers, 2 water purification units.
The USAID has been working in the quake-hit areas with the cooperation of local and international NGOs.
Leading NGOs
Representatives of three leading American NGOS, working closely with USAID
in the affected areas including Rod Snider from Save the Children, Sean Collins from Mercy Corps
and Ann Marrie from Goal giving details of their experience working in the affected areas said the
people need protection from the severe weather.
They said the people of the affected areas are in great spirit and the NGOS,
both national and international are closely working in these areas.
They said besides providing temporary shelter, these NGOS are also working
to provide permanent shelter to the affected people.
The representatives of these NGOs vowed to continue their mission to help the people in the affected areas till their assistance was required by the
local community. •
